Written by Douglas Wolk and illustrated by Khris Soden, this comic tells the story of Paul Knauls, an African-American community and business leader and the so-called “unofficial mayor of Northeast Portland.” Featuring first hand accounts from Knauls himself, this comic explores the legacy of Knaul’s entrepreneurial spirit.  

Douglas Wolk is an author and critic, whose writing about comics and popular music have appeared in The New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Washington Post, and Pitchfork Media. He is a contributing author to the 33 ½ series. His has previously worked as a managing editor for CMJ New Music Monthly. Khris Soden is a multi-media artists and a member of the Portland based art group The M.O.S.T.
