Oregon History Comics 2: Life and Death of the X-Ray Cafe


The Life and Death of the X-Ray Cafe explores the humble beginnings of The X-Ray Cafe, co-owned by Voodoo Doughnut’s Tres Shannon. Founded in the early 1990s, the cafe was a hub of music, art, and culture up until it’s eventual closure in 1994. Written by Sarah Mirk and featuring illustrations by John Isaacson.  

Sarah Mirk is an Oregon-based writer and current online-editor for Bitch Media. Her work has also been featured in the weekly newspapers The Portland Mercury and Seattle’s The Stranger. John Isaacson is a comic and arts instructor at Portland Community College, Independent Publishing Resource Center, Marylhurst University, and Writers in the Schools. He is the creator of several zines, including Feedback, and the book Do It Yourself Screenprinting.
