Comics for Change! 10: Wilbur Slockish
The tenth volume in the Comics for Change! series, this comic chronicles the efforts of Wilbur Slockish, a member of the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation. Wrongly imprisoned for fishing along the Columbia River, Slockish spent the years following his release educating the public on Native fishing rights. Written by Lauren Hudgins and featuring illustrations by Ryan Alexander-Tanner, this publication highlights Slockish inspiring legacy as one of the state’s most impassioned activists.
Lauren Hudgins is a writer and blogger at Describe the Ruckus, covering various rumblings within the art scene in Portland. She is also a contributor for Ooligan Press, where she writes about the Master’s in Publishing program at Portland State University. Ryan Alexander-Tanner is a Portland based illustrator and teacher. He is the artist behind the product and promotional illustrations for Dave’s Killer Bread. He is the co-author of the nonfiction graphic novel To Teach: The Journey, in Comics.
